Born & raised in Pittsburgh, Sam attended Peabody High School and has been in the financial services industry for over 40 years since his graduation from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1982. His longevity in the industry has allowed him to experience, and gain perspective from, a number of “Crisis” periods in the investment world.
Along with working with both individual and institutional clients extensively throughout his entire career, he concentrated on tax-free and fixed income investing in his early years at Mellon Bank. Later he specialized in small company retirement plans and helped to develop the distribution channels of the PNC Mutual Funds, now BlackRock Funds, while at PNC Bank.
Sam is a big supporter of local youth programs. This includes connections as an advisor or board member of the Western PA Jewish Sports Hall of Fame that provides funding to support youth activities, and Community Day School. He has also been a volunteer coach for youth baseball groups (ages 8 through 18) for over 30 years, the last 15 with the Pittsburgh Diamond Dawgs AAU program. He especially enjoys taking in High School & College baseball games to watch many of the players he coached in their formative years – and has even seen a few play in the MLB and other professional leagues.
He and his wife of 34 years, Nancylee reside in the Pittsburgh Squirrel Hill neighborhood where they raised their two sons, Daniel now married and living in Brooklyn and Dylan a College Senior.
